Steer clear of contractors that aren’t willing to provide you with a free estimate because you have not yet made your final decision and the question still remains as to who you are going to pay to have the work done.
* Willing to negotiate on rates –
* Contractors often expect their clients to want to negotiate on their service rates. Any smart contractor will be aware of this and will allow room for negotiation in their initial quote. Don’t be afraid to talk to your potentials and see if they are willing to come down on the price in order to help you out.
* Willing to provide references and success stories –
* A good contractor will be proud of the work they have done for other people. Don’t be afraid to ask about jobs they have completed in the past and check out examples of their work. After all, the contractor you choose will be performing work on your home that you and others will be looking at for a long time to come.
* Willing to provide proof of insurance –
* Never, ever work with a contractor that is not insured. If something goes wrong with the job and additional damages occur, you will be responsible for paying for them unless the contractor carries insurance. If they are unwilling or unable to produce proof of relevant insurance, continue to look elsewhere.
