Australia bars North Korea’s U-19 football team from entering country citing ‘illegal nuclear programmes’

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

The Australian federal government has blocked the Under-19 men’s team of North Korea from entering the country. “Hosting the team would be contrary to the Government’s strong opposition to North Korea’s illegal nuclear and missile development programmes”, Australian foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop told the SBS News yesterday.

The Korean team was scheduled to play a qualification match for Asian Football Confederation championship on November 8 in Shepparton, Victoria. Julia Bishop said, “It would also be inconsistent with our efforts to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on Pyongyang to comply with UN Security Council resolutions.”

A Victorian government spokesperson said the match would be rescheduled, and played outside the Australian borders at a “neutral venue”. Football Federation Australia’s statement said they “respect[ed]” the federal government’s decision.

Hong Kong and the Northern Mariana Islands are the other two counties in the same group with North Korea and Australia. In March, a qualification match between Malaysia and North Korea for 2019’s Asian Cup was rescheduled after Kim Jong-Nam’s death at Kuala Lumpur airport, half-brother of North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un. On September 28 the match was postponed — by this time, its third postponement — after the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs barred Malaysians from travelling to North Korea.

Last month, at the UN general assembly, US president Donald Trump said the US “would […] totally destroy North Korea” if the US had to defend the US and its allies from North Korea. In the revised list of travel bans, Trump banned North Koreans from entering the US.

The Amazing Appeal Of Outdoor Kitchens

byadmin

Homeowners sometimes find themselves with extra square footage. This is usually amidst a patio or backyard setting. The overall appeal of these locales is fascinating. You’re going to find that they can be retrofitted with a lot of different options. As you look at the different options that you have for outdoor space, don’t dismiss the notion of having a kitchen outside. Outdoor kitchens are interesting in that they provide the best of a lot of different elements outside. If you aren’t quite sure, consider some of the alluring aspects of this option that you’ll want to consider.

Entertaining With Culinary Elements

First and foremost, consider the culinary options that you will have in place. When you have a full outdoor kitchen, you could do a lot more than just grill some steaks. Imagine getting a lot more done. For instance, what if you wanted to do a mixed menu? Some things grilled, some things baked, and others boiled? You can do it all if you have the right equipment in place, and that’s where this comes shining through. This brings together entertaining options that you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.

The Visual Design

There’s nothing quite as amazing as having a nice open concept kitchen. Now, multiply that by 10 and you will see that outdoor kitchens can absolutely give you a thrill. This concept goes beyond the ability to just cook and entertain. There’s a visual element to this that is absolutely stunning. You’re going to find that it will come into play when you want to sell your home. Selling your home with this in place will draw the eye, and give you a little more wiggle room in terms of asking price.

The Concepts

For those that aren’t sure what outdoor kitchens consist of, you’ll definitely want to look at the possibilities. If you have a lot of space, you could have a full scale culinary range. From installing ovens, burners, grills, and sinks to putting in islands, you have a lot of diverse opportunities to explore. This includes the additional elements of tile, stone, and more that can accent your existing patio or decking.

At the end of the day, kitchen renovations don’t have to be isolated to just the interior of your home. You could use existing, outdoor spaces to create outstanding concepts. Kitchens can bring about so much, especially if you want to entertain. If you want to have friends over, or just have a family get together, you can easily do so when you have outdoor area to cook, entertain and more. Installation is a matter of working with a good crew and contractor. Once all the pieces are put into place, you’ll wonder how you managed without it all.

“Jezebel of Jazz” Anita O’Day dies at age 87

“Jezebel of Jazz” Anita O’Day dies at age 87

Friday, November 24, 2006

Anita O’Day, best known for her sassy rendition of “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Honeysuckle Rose” died in her sleep early Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2006. She was 87.

Known as the “Jezebel of Jazz,” she was one of America’s most respected jazz vocalists whose vocal contemporaries included Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan.

A Chicago native, she gained national recognition while touring with Jazz legends Gene Krupa and Stan Kenton. Her first national hit was on “Let Me Off Uptown” with Gene Krupa’s orchestra, which became a million dollar seller. Downbeat magazine named her “New Star of the Year” in 1942. After touring with Stan Kenton and his Orchestra, and recording “And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine,” her talent shown as a solo star. Her style became a foundational influence upon modern jazz recordings.

Her innovative scat style singing and lyrical ballads were recorded on Verve Records in the 1950s. Her colorfully innovative vocal style was evidenced in motion pictures “The Gene Krupa Story” and “Jazz On A Summer’s Day.”

Having a close brush with death from heroin addiction in 1967, she also survived alcohol addiction. She completed her autobiography “High Times, Hard Times” in 1981 and is the subject of a full-length documentary “Anita O’Day – the Life of A Jazz Singer,” which has yet to be released. Her last album, which she recorded at age 85, “Indestructable Anita O’Day,” on the Kayo Sterophonics/MRI label, was released last year.

Robbie Cavolina, her manager, said she was recovering from pneumonia at a Los Angeles convalescent hospital. And recollected that “On Tuesday night, she said to me, ‘get me out of here.’ But it didn’t happen.”

Referring to her renewed musical activity, he said that “She got to see how many people really loved her at the shows we did, in New York, in London. She had come back after all of this time. She really lived a very full and exciting life.”

Born Anita Belle Colton O’Day, October 18, 1919, she escaped from a broken home at age 14, and began contesting with touring walk-a-thons popular at the time, and was occasionally asked to sing. Upon her return to Chicago, she landed her first legitimate singing job at Planet Mars, a Chicago nightclub. Carl Cons, Down Beat magazine’s then-editor, was so impressed with her performance that he invited her to open his new jazz club.

As a showcase for promising jazz talent, The Off-Beat was frequented by such musicians as drummer Gene Krupa, and others. During one of her performances there in 1941, Krupa recruited her to join his orchestra.

In 1943, Anita left Krupa’s band and married professional golfer Carl Hoff. She later briefly joined clarinetist Woody Herman’s band, then reluctantly Stan Kenton’s. Thinking her style wasn’t compatible with hers, she was surprised when in 1944 the tune “And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine” became a national hit.

Anita’s fierce love of swing beats, conflicted however with Kenton’s infatuation with strident rhythms and novelty tunes, and a year later, left over artistic differences.

Her improvisational style, and love of bebop lured her toward those with whom she could hone her talent, and by the late 1940s began her career as a solo jazz vocal artist.

She invited John Poole, a drummer whom she met at the Club Starlite in Los Angeles, to join her. She once said of John, “If the drummer is no good, I can’t make it. That’s why I like John Poole. He’s my favorite drummer.” Their musical affiliation lasted 32 years.

In 1955, Norman Granz signed Anita to his company, Verve records, and her debut album “This is Anita” was the label’s first LP. Though she rarely sang ballads, her interpretation of “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square,” was considered so enthralling and fascinating that rocketed her career to new levels.

Her performances with jazz greats Louis Armstrong, Dinah Washington, Thelonious Monk, George Shearling and others were renown. She became an international star after her performance of “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, which later became a documentary film.

Anita recorded 16 albums between 1957 and 1963 with a variety of groups, ranging from small ensembles, big bands to large orchestras. Her performances’ ranged from vibraphonist Cal Tjader to The 3 Sounds, a hard bop trio. Her first Japanese tour in 1964 was received with acclaim while stateside, the popularity of jazz was decreasing.

Her nonconventional, self-initiated cold-turkey recovery from heroin addiction at a Hawaiian retreat was successful, and she later returned to work. Her last public performance was at Hollywood, California‘s Cinegrill Cabaret Lounge at age 83.

Riots greet French government’s labor reform

Riots greet French government’s labor reform

Saturday, March 25, 2006

Student protests against the French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin job reform plan to give employers the right to dismiss young employees within the initial two years of their employment turned increasingly violent over the last two weeks.

The controversial program called the CPE, “First Job Contract”, is to encourage employers to hire people under the age of 26. The French government claims that this process is necessary to reduce the unemployment rates of young people, which is pegged as high as 23% (this rate is the quotient of the number of people under 26 deemed to seek employment over the total of those employed and deemed to seek employment, which excludes the large proportion of students in that population). However, student protestors and trade unions say that the legislation infringes on workers’ rights, and opinion polls show that some two-thirds of the population want the CPE either modified or dropped altogether.

The CPE allows employers to hire people age 26 and younger on a contract for up to two years which may be terminated at any time without explanation. While supporters of the law say that it will make younger people more attractive for employers, opponents say it makes it harder for young people to find long-term employment as there is no incentive for employers to offer any other form of contract.

Labour unions and student organisers are calling for a national strike on Tuesday, the fifth strike in the past two weeks.

The French labor laws are claimed to be among those protecting employees the most in Europe; they prevent employers from trimming their workforces without paying substantial severance packages. Prime Minister de Villepin’s claims to intend to reduce youth unemployment by focusing on attracting modern industries relying on higher employee turnover and more flexible employment arrangements.

The current program is similar to the CNE ordinance the Prime Minister issued last summer for small businesses in France.

CPE was adopted under an exceptional “fast-track” procedure allowing the executive to pass legislation through Parliament without Parliament having to approve it, known as “49-3” following from the number of the relevant article in the French Constitution. This procedure is normally reserved for important but controversial texts considered a crucial and urgent element of the policies of the Prime Minister. Once 49-3 is declared, the law is considered adopted by Parliament unless the National Assembly votes a motion of censure, which terminates the Prime Minister and his cabinet’s term. Following standard practice when 49-3 is used, a motion of censure was proposed by the opposition, then voted down by the Assembly (in which the ruling UMP party has a majority).

India: Maharashtra plastic ban comes into force

India: Maharashtra plastic ban comes into force

Monday, June 25, 2018

On Saturday, the plastic ban in the Indian state of Maharashtra came into force. In an attempt to minimise pollution, the state government has introduced a ban on single-use plastics.

The leader of the Yuya Sena political party, Aaditya Thackeray, said on Twitter, “The ban on single use disposable plastic cups, plastic bags, plastic straws, plastic plates and cutlery, styrofoam cutlery and non woven bags”. He added, “these are global issues now and we have taken a step to combat it”.

Plastic pollution has led to the choking of drains, marine pollution and a risk of animals consuming plastics. This year, India’s motto for World Environment Day — June 5 — was “Beat Plastic Pollution”. People violating the plastic ban are to face a fine of 5,000 Indian Rupees (INR) for the first offence. For the second offence, the fine is INR 10,000 and the third time offence is INR 25,000 and a three-month prison term. Deputy municipal commissioner Nidhi Choudhary said, “To weed out corruption, we plan to give inspectors payment gadgets for electronic receipts of the fines”.

The Maharashtra government has given a 90-day period for manufacturers to dispose of existing polyethylene terephthalate (PET/PETE) plastic spoons and plates, while shopkeepers and citizens in general have six months to dispose of plastics. However, the ban does not prohibit plastic usage for wrapping medicines or milk cartons thicker than 50 microns.

The state government had announced the decision for the plastic ban on March 23. According to NDTV’s report, Maharashtra is the eighteenth Indian state to enforce a state-wide plastic ban. Aaditya Thackeray also said, “I congratulate the citizens for making this into a movement, even before the ban was enforceable, giving up single use disposable plastic.”

Get Rv Insurance And Enjoy Life On Road!

Submitted by: Best Insurance

An RV is your home on wheels. An RV has all the amenities you need to live in comfort or even luxury, and it can cost almost as much as a house in some cases. Much like your home, a recreational vehicle is an investment and insuring your new home on wheels with an insurance policy that is specifically geared toward RV’s is one of the best ways of protecting this investment. RV Insurance covers all the things that regular car insurance cannot even begin to cover, like:

Your clothing

Your camera

Your laptop

All of the other items that you would bring to make your RV feel more like home.

Your RV itself cannot protect your personal effects from fire, flood, or other destructive forces; however, your RV insurance can offer you the peace of mind that will at least allow you to replace these items with minimal fuss. RV insurance not only covers your personal items but also covers the costs of replacement of your RV if it is totaled or stolen and not recovered. Before you purchase your RV insurance policy, it is good to know a little about this type of insurance and, as always make sure you look for the best RV Insurance Agency in Los Angeles, Stockton, Oakland, San Francisco, or Sacramento.

What is RV Insurance?

RV Insurance is coverage that protects not only the vehicle itself, but much like Homeowners Insurance, most of the contents within. While regular vehicle insurance can be purchased for a Recreational Vehicle, many people fail to consider the full coverage that RV Insurance offers. Coverage not only for your vehicle, but also for your BELONGINGS is not only smart, but is a necessity if you travel. For example: Let s assume that you and your family are travelling across country from Sacramento and along the way, you stop for a nice meal and your RV is broken into and your valuables stolen Or, let s assume that the RV park you are camped in suddenly floods due to bad weather and water leaks in damaging your clothing and electronics. What would you do if you simply had a standard vehicle insurance policy? You would be headed back to the nearest department store to restock your wardrobe and the nearest Best Buy to replace that flat screen. A good RV insurance policy will have offer full replacement, meaning that one bad accident or run of bad luck will not force you to give up your RV trips for good because you had to spend all of that money on replacing your belongings.

How does RV Insurance protect my vehicle differently from Auto Insurance?

Some insurance companies underwrite an auto insurance policy as an RV Insurance policy, but it is important to make sure you check the fine print because many of these have limitations to what items you can claim. In regards to the vehicle itself, a true RV insurance policy will cover those parts of the RV that a regular auto insurance policy will not cover such as the stairs, the slide outs, and the awnings. Not only that, this type insurance also covers towable/trailer RV s or truck campers. Your typical auto insurance policy will not cover those types of accessories.

Where you get the RV Insurance and for which type of RV?

Although, there are many insurance companies that offer RV Insurance, and you can most certainly shop around online, your best bet is to contact an Insurance Agent that specializes in RV Insurance. Sure, you can surf around and get quotes online, but in reality, there are so many options when purchasing RV insurance and when it comes to protecting you, your family, and your investment, taking pot shots for the cheapest price is not the best idea. Although you can insure any type of RV, whether it is a trailer/camper or a full-size rig, you should make sure that you understand all of your coverage options in order to make the best decision and get the best rates. When shopping online for insurance, consumers tend to overlook the small print and ultimately end up paying more for some coverage they may not have needed. Don t be lazy! Take the time to contact an insurance agency specializing in RV Insurance and spend the time to review your options You ll be glad you did!

RV Insurance Sounds expensive! Is it?

Just like auto insurance, home insurance, life insurance, or health insurance, there are MANY different levels of coverage and insurance companies running national deals. That being said, it is possible to find great deals on RV Insurance just the same. Once again, the best way to get a great rate is to let your insurance agent do the shopping for you. Whether you are an RV owner in Los Angeles, or in the Bay Area of Stockton, San Francisco, & Oakland, all the way to Sacramento, seek out a reputable insurance agency that can help find the right RV Insurance policy for you!

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

The motorcyclist, a pizza deliveryman, was killed when he fled police attempting to examine his documents, dying when he was struck by a pursuing police vehicle according to the youths, however in the police version his death was a result of him crashing into barriers.

The current violence has echoes of the unrest in 2005, with again dissaffected youths of Arab and black descent venting their anger and frustration.

The leaders of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) met in Guadalajara, Mexico on Sunday and Monday. The leaders of the three countries (Barack Obama of the United States, Felipe Calderón of Mexico, and Stephen Harper of Canada) promised to work together on swine flu, organised crime and green issues.

Despite disputes in a number of areas remaining unresolved, the three leaders succeeded in presenting an amiable Three Amigos image. The three leaders expressed solidarity, and an understanding of each others position.

The unresolved issues include the buy American clauses in the US stimulus package, tit for tat reprisals by the Mexican authorities over Canadian visa restrictions on Mexican travellers, and the US ban on Mexican trucks from crossing the border.

Risking the ire of human rights activists back home President Obama expressed support for President Calderón’s war against drugs saying he had “great confidence” in the Mexican authorities.

Mexican Federal Police (Policía Federal) have foiled an alleged plot to assasinate the President of Mexico Felipe Calderón. Acting on intelligence gathered over a year the Federal Police arrested five drug cartel members on Sunday and publicly paraded their captives and a number of weapons ,including automatic rifles, on Monday. Speaking during a summit of North American leaders Calderón played down the threats on his life, saying that the cartels are being destroyed by his policies.

Some 11000 have died since President Calderón’s took office in 2006 and made the war on drugs a cornerstone of his administration.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced by a court in Burma to a further three years of house arrest for violating the terms of her previous sentence. However her sentence was immediately commuted to 18 months on the orders of Burmese head of state Senior-General Than Shwe out of respect for her father General Aung San and out of a desire for “national reconciliation”.

The period of her arrest will prevent Aung San Suu Kyi from participating in the general elections scheduled for 2010. The sentence was immediately condemned by Western leaders, and breaking from their usual silence, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) through its current chair Thailand issued a statement expressing disappointment. The ASEAN statement and talk of further European Union and United States sanctions are unlikely to have any impact on Southeast Asian country given the support of India and China.

The Chinese issued a statement calling for the world to respect Burmese sovereignty and laws, and is seen as an indication that China, a veto power will not support any United Nations actions.

John Yettaw whose unauthorised visit led to Aung San Suu Kyi’s prosecution has himself been sentenced to seven years imprisonment, four of which will be for hard labour.

Four employees of the Rio Tinto Group have been formally arrested in China on charges of bribery and using improper practises in its negotiations with Chinese companies. The Chinese accuse the men of improperly learning the negotiating position of Chinese companies wishing to buy iron ore, and through this charging 700 billion yuan (US$102.46 billion) more then they would otherwise have been able to

The four were initially held on espionage charges and have been held since early July. The formal charges allows the Chinese authorities to hold the four a further seven months as it prepares its case against them. Their arrests followed the collapse of an attempted by Chinese owned Chinalco to raise its stake in the Anglo-Australian Rio Tinto Group to 18%.

Michael Jackson will be the star of a film to be released on October 28, some four months after his death. The film will be primarily cut from footage of Jackson rehearsing for the series of concerts that would have taken place at the O2 in London, but will also feature interviews with Jackson’s family and friends.

The film becomes possible after AEG Live, the promoter of the O2 concerts, reached an US$60 million agreement with Columbia Pictures for over 100 hours of footage of Jackson preparing for his swan song.

“He was the architect of ‘This is it‘, and we were his builders…” said Kenny Ortega, Jackson’s collaborator on the project “…it was clear that he was on his way to another theatrical triumph.”

How Online Payroll Software And Hr Software Help Small And Medium Businesses Grow?

Online payroll software India is specified with features that works according to the requirement of Indian industrial businesses. Payroll policies vary according to the federal and state laws of the country and it is necessary for a software to evaluate the required data as per requirements.

HR software and payroll software functions as per the requirement as in India the employment laws are different as the education system is different. Here are few aspects ofonline payroll software india and HR software works for small and medium enterprises in India:

Management of workforce

Payroll software makes it easier for the human resources team to manage the workforce and process with the performance of each employee working on different levels. It allows the human resources team to focus on the quality and growth of the organization by taking over the tedious yet important tasks which plays a major role in determining the workforce and future of the organization. It is important to know about an employee working hours as this determines their hard earned money. An automated system works with minimum risk of error to resolve the issue of over-payment, under payment or even delayed payment .

Funding for new Museum of Liverpool approved

Monday, July 11, 2005

In Liverpool, England the North West Development Agency (NWDA) has approved funds of nearly £33 million (about $57.6 million U.S. dollars) for the construction of the Museum of Liverpool on Mann Island at the Pier Head — part of Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site waterfront. An additional £7.5 million (about 13.1 million U.S. dollars) has been allocated for the creation of a canal link across Mann Island, encompassing central docks, the Pier Head, and the Albert Dock.

The museum is to replace the current Museum of Liverpool Life. The future museum, which is presently a £65 million pound project, is to be the situated on the site of the failed “Fourth Grace” building. The “Three Graces” are: the Royal Liverpool Building, the Cunard Building; and the Port of Liverpool Building. The abortive Fourth Grace was a controversial building known as “The Cloud”, the brainchild of architect Will Alsop. It was cancelled in July 2004 after local opposition, rising costs and the belief that the design was unrealistic.

The future museum, which will be designed in the shape of an “X”, will feature 10,000 square metres of exhibition space on Liverpool’s cultural and social history, including present exhibits of the Museum of Liverpool Life.

The two projects are considered integral aspects of Liverpool’s successful bid in 2003 for the 2008 European Capital of Culture.
