In a quarter-final rematch of the 1998 Fifa World Cup final France beat Brazil 1-0 to progress to the semi-finals, Saturday.
Brazil had not lost a Fifa World Cup match since the 1998 game but Zinedine Zidane, the three times World Player of the Year who had authored Brazil’s downfall in Paris, left the signature of his gifts in his trademark flair at the Commerzbank Arena.File:Commerzbank-Arena-Luftbild.jpg
The experienced French defense of Liliam Thuram, Claude Makelele and Patrick Viera did their bit to confine the 2002 World Champions to a single shot on target in 90 minutes. The attacking pace and skill of newcomer Frank Ribery ripped Brazilian defence open and Zidane found him time and time again.
Thierry Henry scored the only goal of the game 12 minutes after half-time. Zidane flighted a free kick to the far post where Henry ran in and jumped to side-foot a volley past Dida.
Zidane’s performance in the eyes of experienced observers reawakened memories of his best games for France. He orchestrated nearly everything France did well and always had time for graceful turns, effortless passes, mesmerizing footwork that evaded legs to keep the ball under control.
If 34 year old Zidane played like the game might have been his last match, Brazil’s Ronaldo, Cafu and Roberto Carlos, also over 30, were unable to rise to the same heights on this occasion.
On 90 minutes Ronaldinho had a free kick opportunity 25 yards from goal but it was not to be the 2006 Fifa Player of the Year’s night either; his shot fizzed over the bar.
The result meant Raymond Domenech’s side would meet Portugal in the semi-final round of the World Cup in Munich on Wednesday, July 5.

A large fire has started at the Barangaroo construction site overlooking Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. The construction company said fire broke out at about 2:10pm local time (0310 UTC) and appeared to have been caused by a welding accident in the basement of a building.
All site workers were evacuated without injury, according to Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Ian Krimmer. Large clouds of smoke were continuing to pour out of the building, casting a thick pall of smoke over the city skyline. Some nearby buildings have also been evacuated, including the KPMG building and offices of the Macquarie Bank.
Firefighters reported concern about a tower crane overhanging the building basement site. There were fears that the crane could buckle due to the heat and collapse. Firefighters were working to keep the base of the crane cool, and the stability of the structure was being monitored with lasers.
The Western Distributor motorway was closed to traffic, and Sydney Harbour Bridge partly closed. There had been major disruptions in traffic and multiple roads in the Sydney CBD (Central Business District) were gridlocked. People catching buses were advised to expect long delays.

Keeping your home organized is one of the greatest challenges for homeowners. Even those with the best intentions often find that daily life gets in the way. You can use the curtains to create additional walls in your space that are as colorful and stylish as wallpaper.
There are pieces of furniture that serve equally as storage pieces. You can furnish your home and leave people guessing how you stay so organized. Pieces like storage chests, ottomans and cabinets all make for great organization and look great too. Most of the time, these pieces can be used as furniture and for storage. With ottomans, you can put your feet up on your storage and with shelving; you can place accessories on top of the piece, bringing style and personalization to your storage unit.
If your home is just too crowded, take your storage outside. There are pieces that are weather resistant that can be placed on patios and in sunrooms, creating storage space where you least expect it. This is especially useful if the items you need to store are garden or outdoor items to begin with. Whenever possible, store items in the place they are most frequently used, like keeping barbecue equipment outside instead of bringing it into the kitchen or dining area. There is no reason to add clutter to your indoor space with items that you will just need to carry outdoors when putting them into use.
Lastly, personalize your storage items in creative ways. You can turn basic storage containers into decorative, stylish pieces with paint, decoupage or fabric. Even the most unsightly storage can become decorative furniture pieces with a little creativity. Best of all, you do not need to rely on the storage industry to create something that will complement your personal style. If you are the one decorating your storage, you can choose any color or style you want. This means you will get exactly what you want with just a little additional effort.

The government of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in a severe political crisis. The crisis began after the exposure of a series of scandals which involve the Workers’ Party, the Brazilian ruling party.
In 2002, Celso Daniel, the mayor of Santo André, 10 km (6 miles) away from the São Paulo city, was murdered. Daniel was a member of the ruling Workers’ Party. The mayor’s brother says that Daniel died because he was in disagreement to a supposed bribe conspiracy organized by some Workers’ Party members. The case remains under investigation by police.
In 2004, the former adviser to the government of President Lula, Waldomiro Diniz, was accused of negotiating with “bicheiros” (men who deal with: “Jogo do Bicho”, or illegal gambling) and extorting money for Workers’ Party (PT) electoral campaigns. A supposed victim of extortion released a tape exposing Diniz. The tape’s authenticity has been verified by experts and it was aired by the major Brazilian television stations. A Congressional special commission was proposed by non-government parties so the denunciation could be investigated. The government succeeded in stopping the creation of the commission.
On March 16, the leading Brazilian magazine Veja published a story saying that according to documents of the Brazilian Agency of intelligence (Abin) the Workers’ Party received 5 million dollars to be used by political campaigns of their candidates in 2002 from the Colombian communist armed group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP). Abin said that the documents were not authentic.
Last month, some men, supposedly involved in illicit negotiations with the Brazilian Post Service recorded a video which shows former Post Office Chief, Maurício Marinho, during a supposed bribe negotiation. In the tape, Marinho receives and puts in his pocket R$3,000 (about 1,259 USD) in cash. He insinuates that the scheme is commanded by deputy Roberto Jefferson. The recording was aired by the major Brazilian television stations.
Roberto Jefferson is the president of the government-allied Brazilian Labor Party (PTB). Lula da Silva said in a earlier occasion that he “would give to Jefferson a bank check in blank”, what means that he had high confidence on Jefferson.
Still related to the Post Office case, on June 2, Lídio Duarte, the former president of IRB, a government enterprise, denied allegations that money from some Brazilian government enterprises was going to PTB, Jefferson’s party. An earlier story published by magazine Veja, said that Duarte was a victim of extortion by a representative of PTB. According to Veja, Duarte resigned from the Presidency of IRB, because he had difficulties in continuing to give more money to PTB. Lídio denied this story to the police, and furthermore he said that he never have had an interview with Veja’s journalists.
On June 8, the magazine Veja released for download in its webpage, an audio tape where it can be heard the voice of Lidio Duarte during an alleged interview to Veja. In the tape, Lidio Duarte talks about being under pressure because someone was asking him more contribution in money for PTB. The tape contradicts the Duarte’s testimony to the police and because of that, he became subject of investigation by the authorities. The name of the deputy Roberto Jefferson is cited by Duarte in the alleged recorded interview to Veja.
After the Post Office scandal been exposed, the Brazilian Congress proposed the creation of a Congress’ special commission, so it could be investigated by the Parliament. The government, however, protested against it, arguing that political adversaries were anticipating the dispute to the next election for Brazil’s Presidency. Workers’ Party senator Eduardo Suplicy protested in Senate against his party decision. Because that he was very criticized and he got subject to punishment by the Workers’ Party.
On June 6, Roberto Jefferson told the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo that the ruling Workers’ Party (PT) has payed Brazilian deputies 30 thousand Brazilian Reals (US 12 thousand) each, every month. The stock markets went down and the U.S. Dollar increased its value in relation to the Brazilian Real. A new Congress’ special commission was proposed by some Brazilian senators, so Jefferson’s allegations could be investigated. The Workers’ Party says that Jefferson’s allegations were untrue and that he had no proofs.
After Jefferson’s denunciation the focus of the scandal moved to the government and the ruling Workers’ Party. Because the government were under pressure, the Workers’ Party changed his earlier decision of stopping the creation of a Congress’ special commission for the Post Office scandal. The proposal for the creation of a Congress’ special commission for the Post Office scandal was approved.
On June 9, there was the first meeting of members of the Congress’ special commission for the Post Office scandal. Because of unsolved disputes between government’s parliamentarians and the other parties representatives, the meeting could not continue. The government’s block argued that it must choose the president and the report for the commission, since the government commission members are the majority. Other parties argue that according to Parliament tradition the government should choose one member for the presidency or report and the opposition should choose the other member.A new meeting was scheduled to the next week, on Tuesday, June 14.
Besides these scandals, the current Social Security Minister, Romero Jucá, is accused of havingoffered seven non-existent farms as guarantee for a financing from the Banco of Amazonia, among other denunciations of misuse of public loans. The current President of Brazilian Central Bank, Henrique Meirelles, is accused of financial fraud among other accusations. Also there is a denunciation of a irregular transference of founds of Central Bank to the construction of a new headquarter for the Workers’ Party.
On June 4, during the so called Curupira operation, the Brazilian Federal Police arrested members of IBAMA, a Brazilian agency for environment. Among other accusations, they are accused of selling irregular licenses for deforestation in Amazon. At least one of the suspects, a Workers’ Party affiliate, is under suspection of have used the money for the political campaign of a Worker’s Party candidate in Mato Grosso.
Besides the commission to investigate the Post Office scandal, another Congress’ special commissions were suggested by non-government members of Brazilian Senate: a commission to investigate the IRB scandal and another one to the investigation of Roberto Jefferson’s allegations. Also, it is expected that the Brazilian Courts rule against the earlier government decision of stopping the creation of a commission for the investigation of the alleged Waldomiro Diniz scandal.

Roll up displays for use in hand-held gadgets will be available for mass production by March 2007 according to co-developer Philips. Working with US based paper pioneer E-ink, Philips have developed a 13cm wide screen which is just 0.1 millimetres thick and can be rolled up so that it is only 15 millimetres in diameter.
The screen, which Philips hope to license to makers of in-car satellite navigation systems, mobile web browsers and smart phones, uses no back light and displays a monochrome image in four shades of grey as well as black and white. According to Philips the screen is able to give a “paper-like contrast”.
The screen consists of a backing layer of plastic film which contains a matrix of transistors. This is topped off with layer transparent “electronic ink” capsules and a layer of clear plastic. The capsules are approximately 50 micrometres in diameter and contain polarised black and white particles. Using the transistors, a pattern of positive and negative charge can be applied which manipulates the particles to form monochrome images.

As a patient that is seeking an alternative cancer treatment, it is important to understand that the physician must also be willing to meet their respective clients needs. A physician is highly trained in their medical field; however, their education and skill for the treatment of cancer may overshadow the compassion that also underlies many medical ailments. A cancer physician must be aware of other treatments that are also available to the patient, and understand the various treatments that the patient will be comfortable working with. Each patient is a fine, infinite being that must be handled just as such. Allowing the physician to know where the patient stands on their medical treatment, and what they are willing to do to be proactive towards their own recovery is essential for anyone that is going through a medical treatment.
Approaching a medical physician with information that is deemed important by the patient is essential to assisting the physician in understanding the medical benefits that one wishes to receive. With medical treatments and research, there are continuous pieces of information that continue to flow into literature. There are constant medical breakthroughs that are continuously arising on the medical front. This is an important part of medical research, and both the medical professional as well as the patient should be vigilant in reading such material. When the patient goes to their next doctors visit, they should take the information that they have regarding new medical information with them so their physicians can also review the material.
When dealing with a physician, it is important to remember that the patients life and the ability to become rehabilitated is what is at stake. There are many medical professionals that are proficient in their designated field of practice, but are also interested in working only with what they were taught in medical school. By taking any information that is readily available to the physician, the physician can review the materials and see if it is an innovative program that will also be of benefit to the patient.
Joining a support group is also a very important journey of any medical treatment. It is through a support group that one can effective receive the love and understanding that is needed while going through an alternative Cancer treatment. A support group can also offer the encouragement that a patient needs in order to remain proactive towards a cure for their cancer ailment, additional research to be conducted, or for there mere moral support. There is sufficient evidence to support that there are many patients that have come along much further in their medical treatments when they have received adequate support from those that they know and others in the community.
Stimulating the body to accept a new means of medicine, or knowing when the body is unable to receive evasive medical procedures is important to those that are looking for an alternate means of cancer treatment. Working with a physician that is open-minded is also a wonderful way to ascertain that there will be medical treatments that are readily available for when the patient is ready.

Four people have died and at least four more have been seriously injured after a dump truck hit multiple vehicles and two pedestrians in Bath in South West England. The incident occurred at around 1600 UTC yesterday when the truck rolled down a hill on Lansdown Lane in the city’s Upper Weston district in what witness accounts given to police suggest was an accident avoidance attempt.
The four fatalities died at the scene of the crash, on a steep hill close to Weston All Saints Primary School. Three people injured were taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath; one was critically injured and transported to Bristol’s Southmead Hospital by air ambulance. A number of others also received minor injuries, leading to the primary school being turned into a temporary hospital. Eyewitness accounts reported by ITV News West Country indicated the truck driver repeatedly beeped his horn in the seconds before the collision, at a time when a number of children would have been leaving the school.
Police closed off the road to allow for investigative work. Speaking on behalf of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Chief Superintendent Caroline Peters, who described the collision scene as “one of carnage”, explained: “We have a collision team of investigators who are trying to assess the cause of this accident and we are working very closely with the fire service and South West Ambulance”.

Former Formula One McLaren designer Gordon Murray has unveiled a new all-electric car.
The car model, which is known as the T.27, is due to be developed over the course of the next 16 months with four prototypes. The process that will be used during the course of the manufacturing of the vehicle is called iStream. The technology iStream had been invented by Gordon Murray in 1999 and means that all the parts are designed using a computer.
The project has approximately received £9,000,000 (US$14,919,000) in investment. The electric car is designed for urban purposes, such as in cities or towns. The weight of the vehicle is just 600 kilograms. It has the ability to travel at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour and can go for a maximum of 100 miles between recharges.
The designer thinks that motorists will some day be travelling in vehicles like this. Murray believes that the new car will be ‘the most efficient electric vehicle on earth’.
