Max Clay is a very successful Financial Planner who has lived; it would seem, forever around the Shellharbour region. In fact, everything he has ever done seems to have been centred on the district.

As a teenager growing up in Shellharbour, he was an avid surfer. Even now he still enjoys his surfing and has strong ties with the local surf club. He has been a member of Shellharbour Surf Club for the past 10 years.

As a teenager and young man, Max also played rugby league for Shellharbour and these days is a Life Member, Patron and major Sponsor of the club. He is very much a community man and is currently standing for Council elections.

At the age of 16, Max started work in the hospitality industrywith Shellharbour Workers, of course. Commencing as an Office Clerk, he quickly learned the ropes. Gaining experience in the cellar and behind the bar he moved fairly quickly into management. This caused problems as he had to make a decision whether to follow his love of rugby league, a sport he was very good at, or build a career in the club industry.

For a young man, this must have been a very difficult decision, but Max chose to work rather than play football. How many young sports people would do that these days?

Leaving Shellharbour Workers, Max moved on to work in a management role for Port Kembla Golf Club. Here he managed the bar, the cellar; paid the wageshe did just about everything by the sound of it. Shellharbour Bowling Club came next for Max and here he actually did do it all, turning a $13,000 business loss into a $26,000 profit in 12 months.

After a short stint in the Video Industry, Max made a decision in the late 1980s that would change his life forever. His mother had recently died of Cancer and previously he had seen NSW Death Duties erode his familys inheritances. Although this terrible tax had long since been abolished it got him thinking that he needed to look after his family.

In 1989, Max entered the Life Insurance Industry. Setting up a Multi Agency with Prudential, Zurich, Liberty Life and Tindall his plan has always been to care for his family and for his clients. The death of his mother reinforced his career commitment and his determination and resolve has never wavered during his 22 years in

. Over the years, he has progressed to become a Financial Planner.

As a testament to Maxs dedication to his profession, he is a 4 time member of the Million Dollar Round Table, an exclusive worldwide club for Insurance Agents who have qualified based on annual sales and excellence in performance. These days, Matrix Financial Solutions has over 2.6 million dollars in Funds Under Management. They operate a Financial System called Prospera, which Max says, is a proven financial strategy to fund a lifestyle.

Max says that the thing that sets his business apart from others is that they are a business that puts the customer first. They are totally independent and non aligned to any bank or any funds management company. Above all, Max says that he strives to be known as an honest and caring person. He is also, as I found out, a very humble man who was genuinely surprised when a lady recently remarked at a social event, You are very unique. You dont realise how successful you are. I think she was right!
